Abia Govt denies sacking of Finidi George as Enyimba’s Manager

The Abia State Government has described as fable, the stories making the rounds that the technical crew of Nigeria’s Premier League Champions, Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, has been sacked.
Government said that it has not issued any such directive to the management of the club.
In a move to douse the tension and anxiety generated by the newsbreak on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, said that there was not truth in the story.
“The Abia State government wishes to call on the general public to disregard the fake story making the rounds that the technical bench of Nigeria’s premier league champions, Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, has been sacked,” Uko said in a statement late Monday evening.
“There is no iota of truth in that fable as no directive has been issued in that regard by either the state government or the club’s management.
“Mr. Finidi George, Manager of Enyimba and Nigeria’s former international, remains the Manager of the club, likewise all other officers,” Uko added.
Earlier on Monday, July 17, 2023, the social media was awash with the news of the purported sack of Finidi as the Manager of Enyimba, less than a month after he had guided the Aba giants to a historic ninth NPL title. The former Nigeria international has been in charge of Enyimba for two seasons.
The story had it that the club on Monday announced the dissolution of the technical crew, adding that the Peoples’ Elephant announced the sack of Finidi through a statement signed by its Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who also directed all the coaches to re-apply for their positions within 48 hours.
In an effort to fortify Enyimba FC, the Abia State Government recently appointed a former Super Eagles Captain, Nwankwo Kanu, as new Chairman of the club.
Kanu and Finidi were teammates during their playing days at Dutch club, Ajax Amsterdam.
