Abia HoS advocates improved welfare programmes for workers
[From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia]
Abia Government Head of Service (HoS), Sir Onyii Wamah, has appealed to the Federal Government to embark on more programmes and projects that are geared towards improving the living standard of all workers in the country.
Sir Wamah who made the appeal in his office, said the appeal has become expedient, considering the geometric hike in the prices of food items and other essentials, arguing that the workers were adversely affected whenever there was a slight economic downturn.
A statement by the Head, Information and Media, in the Office of the Head Of Service, Adaeze Ralph Igbokwe, quoted the Number One Civil Servant in Abia as lamenting that last year was challenging and traumatic.
The statement added that the Head of Service extolled the efforts of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in reducing the difficulties encountered by the workforce through the prompt payment of workers salary.
Sir Wamah charged the workers not to be deterred by the prevailing economic challenges but to put their trust in God who was ever ready to satisfy man’s needs.
The State Head of Service, who prayed to God to console the families of Abia Workers, who died in 2021, also prayed for the protection of the workers this year and beyond, expressing optimism that 2022 would favor workers.
