
Abia LP candidate, Otti, unveils running mate, inaugurates Campaign Council

The Abia State Labour Party Governorship Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Alex Otti, on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, unveiled his running mate; and as well inaugurated his Campaign Council.

Otti, at the double-barrelled ceremony held at his campaign office on Library Avanue, Umuahia, named 38-year old Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Petroleum Engineer graduate, Ikechukwu Emetu, as his running mate; and Rt. Hon. Nnanna Ngwu, as the Chairman of his Campaign Council.
“We have prayerfully chosen a young man, a philanthropist and an Engineer, Ikechukwu Elekwachi Emetu, as our Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2023 General elections, “ Otti said while unveiling his running mate.
Responding, an elated Emetu, promised to work harmoniously with is principal to actualise their goal of winning the Abia guber race next year.
“I am fully committed to serving Abia people,” Emetu said, adding, “you (referring to Otti) have not just given me an opportunity to run with you but you have given Abia youths a sense of belonging. Abia youths will now believe that they are the leaders of tomorrow.”
Chairman of LP in Abia, Ceekay Igara, praised Otti for giving Abia youths the platform to prove that they were the leaders of tomorrow, expressing optimism that the party would emerge victorious in next year’s governorship contest in Abia, given its choice of governorship candidate and his running mate.
Inaugurating the Campaign Council, the LP Governorship candidate said the membership of the Council have been harmonized after the process of nomination at the local government and state level, adding that the task of the team was to work for Labour Party to take over Abia in 2023.
“We have put together a formidable Campaign Council, a team that will lead the charge. Everybody who believes in taking back Abia is a member,” Otti added.
Archbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Grace, Most Rev. Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, who was on hand to bless members of the Campaign Council, said Nigerians should work for a change of the old order which has entrenched misgovernance that has unleashed hardship, suffering and misery upon Nigerians.
Opoko who said he was at the ceremony not as a party man, but “father to all party men,” noted that Nigerians were wallowing in poverty, a situation that must be reversed by choosing the right leaders in 2023.
“Poverty is poverty everywhere. Poverty has no religion or ethnicity,” hence “all of us have been called to work so that we eradicate hunger. There is unemployment in the country. All of us should work to create employment.
“We should tell our politicians that there is no going back on taking back our country. If as a politician, you don’t perform, you will be carried and dumped in the dustbin, the man of God said.
He urged the Council to carry all their party members along in the course of executing their mandate and warned the electorate against collecting money to sell their Permanent Voter Cards.
Responding on behalf of others, Chairman of the Campaign Council, Hon. Nnanna Ngwu, called for all hands to be on the deck to enable the Council to deliver all their candidates for the 2023 elections.
Ngwu thanked the LP Governorship flag bearer for finding worthy to serve in the Council.
Some other key members of Campaign Council include Hon. Okey Kanu (Secretary); Hon. Acho Obioma (Director and Coordinator); Otta Kalu (Head, Media), Ferdinand Ekeoma (Spokesman); Chief Umeh Kalu – SAN, –(Legal) and Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru (Religious).
