Abia PDP guber candidate, Ikonne, is dead
Reports reaching The Oracle Today indicate that the Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Abia State, Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne, is dead.
Ikonne reportedly died early today’s morning, Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at National Hospital, Abuja.
Announcement of Ikonne’s passing away was made by his son, Dr Uche-Ikonne Chikezie, as posted on the Facebook wall of the Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who also doubles as Director of Strategic Communication, Abia PDP Campaign Council.
The statement entitled “Death of Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne,” reads:
“I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Prof Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who died at the National Hospital, Abuja today, 25th January 2023 by 4. am after a brief illness.
“He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago, leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from.
“Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family.

“For the family.”
Ikonne has been out of public view since October 24, 2022, after receiving the party’s flag as it’s Governorship Candidate when the party flagged off it’s campaigns same day.
In a radio engagement last week, the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, told Abia that Ikonne was sick but was convalescing after treatment and expressed hope that the PDP candidate would soon be back to re-join the party’s ongoing campaigns.
