Abia Polytechnic rape: Randy police corporal remanded, after dismissal

Corporal Chinedu Nwachukwu, the Police officer who allegedly raped a female student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, has been remanded in prison by a Magistrate Court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State capital.
CPL Nwachukwu was arraigned last Wednesday following his orderly room trial Tuesday at the headquarters of Abia State Police Command, Umuahia on Tuesday.
CPL Nwachukwu was found guilty of the rape allegation and was consequently dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.
Following his dismissal, he was arraigned in line with the administrative procedure of the Police and is now standing trial as a civilian.
Public Relations Officer of Abia State Police Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed Nwachukwu’s detention.
The raping of the Abia Poly female student triggered students protest which grounded the commercial city of Aba, penultimate Thursday.
The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and his Wife, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, while reacting to the rape incident, vowed that justice must be served in the matter.
A human rights group, Foundation for Environmental Rights , Advocacy and Development (FENRAD), had called for thorough investigation and justice on the issue .
