Abia State government has stopped the Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Abia State wing planned to hold Thursday, November 17 and Friday, 18, 2022.

The event was put on hold through a terse statement by the Ministries of Basic and Post Basic Education, citing security reasons.

According to a statement jointly signed by Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma, Commissioner for Basic Education and Sir Chijioke Mark, Commissioner for Post Basic Education and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the suspension of the event was occasioned by “serious and vehement threats” arising from the plan by the union to hold the said conference.

The release partly read: “The Ministries of Basic and Post Basic Education, in order to forestall a breakdown of law and order in the state, hereby direct the immediate suspension of the said delegates conference and all activities related thereto.”
