Methodist Bishop for Evangelism, Dr Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha, has unveiled an 11-point agenda with which he hopes to drive the development of Abia State if given the mandate to govern the state in 2023.
Bishop Onuoha unveiled the 11-point agenda while formally declaring his intention to contest in the 2023 governorship race in Abia State.
Announcing his intention during a media parley in Umuahia on Friday, the Item-born cleric who is aspiring on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), said he was compelled to join the governorship race in order to address “the pains and sufferings” being witnessed in the state, stressing that it was “time to rise and make Abia better.”
He explained that having been to all parts of Abia State, he could humbly submit that he knows the issues, problems and challenges amongst its residents, adding that that informed his proffered solution that has been summarized in an 11-point agenda which would cover the critical sectors of the life of Ndi Abi and transform the state.
He listed his11-point agenda to include: Security and Social Welfare; Digital Economy and Information Technology Transformation; Transparency and Accountability; International Relations/ Development Agencies; Job Creation/ Youth and Women Empowerment and Agriculture and Rural Development.
The rest are Participatory Governance, Education for sustainable development, Accessible Basic Health for All, Trade and Commerce and Faith Community for Development.
He said by joining the race he was yielding to calls on him by various groups like Clean and Clean Abia Group (CACAG), market women, students group, Abia stakeholders, eminent personalities to come and salvage Abia.
He, however, said he made up his mind to join the race after deep prayerful thought, personal reflections and consultations with vast sections of stakeholders which made him arrive at a conclusion that Ndi Abia needed “a change, a re-direction to the path of development; a cleansing that will ensure ourselves and our children can dance to the song of hope and thanksgiving.”
The Bisho said he hesitated to answer the calls initicially, explaining that immediately he gave his consent, “a group of friends and associates contributed funds and purchased my Governorship Nomination and Expression of Interest Form,” he added
He expressed hope that change was possible, although it was a journey; but asserted that he would lead Abians to the positive transformation that they have been yearning for over the years.
“Without sounding immodest, I am that Governor Ndi Abia have been praying for. I have garnered wealth of experience in administration, business, public and private sector, of course, in the religious sector, which is my primary assignment, calling and ministry. Let me be the balm and solution to the challenges in Abia State,” said the former Special Adviser to Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on Privatisation.
