Adeleke declares ambition to challenge Oyetola ahead 2022 governorship poll
Former senator and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has declared his ambition to re-contest the office come 2022.
Adeleke, younger sibling to one-time Governor of the state, Isiaka Adeleke, lost to incumbent, Adegboyega Oyetola, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2018 contest, under controversial circumstances when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) surprisingly declared the poll inconclusive with Adeleke in the lead.
Adeleke declared interest to contest the next election, Tuesday, in Osogbo, the state capital.
The popular former senator is also uncle to contemporary music star, David Adeleke (Davido) and is believed to enjoy massive support among the state’s youth population enjoyed support of youths across the 30 local government areas of the state.
Receiving the former senator at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo, factional chairman of the state chapter of the PDP, Sunday Bisi, alleged that hoodlums attacked the party’s secretariat.
“The unprovoked attack on the secretariat by political thugs in a desperate attempt to scare party faithful from an important event scheduled to hold on the premises,” Bisi said.
He charged law enforcement agents to fish out the perpetrators and ensure that they face justice.
In his remarks, Adeleke appealed to party members to unite just as he called on the Osun Governor, Oyetola, to ‘prepare his handover notes.’
