Adu clinches PDP ticket for Akure North/Akure South bye-election, faces APC’s Lawson-Alade in Feb. 26 poll
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary poll for the ticket to represent the party at the February 26 Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, in Ondo State has been won by Olumuyiwa Adu.
The primary election which was conducted, Thursday, in the state follows on the heels of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) exercise which produced Mayokun Lawson-Alade, earlier, last Tuesday.
Adu and Mayokun Lawson-Alade are now expected to battle it out as main rivals in the February 26 bye-election to be conducted by the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adu, who was one of the five aspirants at he PDP primaries, won the election with 98 votes, while Kemisola Adesanyan came second with 70 votes.
Other contestants are Adebayo Alarapon (8 votes), Babatunde Faro (40 votes), Dayo Awude (16 votes).
The election conducted by a 5-man committee led by Mr Alabi Fawole after the conclusion of the election called on all the contestants and members of the party to work for the party to win the election on February 26, 2022.
In his acceptance speech, Adu said he was not the best among the aspirants but emerged winner through divine intervention, even as he appreciated the committee and other co-contestants, while seeking their support as he declared readiness to fly the party’s flag.
“I’m determined, it is my project we must change the current situation of this country for the better. We must send APC away from the government come 2023. I’m competent to be there,” he said.
It would be recalled that INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye had last month, in Abuja, listed six bye-elections to be conducted by he Commission, this year.
“Following the declaration of vacancies by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Honourable Speakers of some State Houses of Assembly, the Commission has scheduled bye-elections for six constituencies in 4 States as follows:
“Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, Ondo State ; Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Plateau State; Pankshin South State Constituency, Plateau State; Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Cross River State; Akpabuyo State Constituency, Cross River State; Ngor-Okpala State Constituency, Imo State,” he said.
