Again, Ademola Adeleke clinches PDP ticket ahead Osun Governorship poll in July
Ex-Senator Ademola Adeleke, Tuesday, won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Primary election for the forthcoming Osun State poll.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16, this year.
Adeleke now faces incumbent, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who had won the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest re-election.
Oyetola defeated Adeleke in the 2018 election under controversial circumstances, after his successful run was halted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of the poll as ‘inconclusive.’
The PDP primary, held at the 10,000 capacity Oshogbo stadium, was also contested by Dotun Babayemi.
The primary election held amid allegation of bias and litigations which could have stalled the process.
Chief Electoral Officer of the Osun PDP primary, Abiye Sekibo, said Senator Adeleke won over 1,800 votes with the rest of the five candidates on the ballot sharing just five votes.
He described the election as ‘smooth and calm.’
“I am not aware that there was a parallel primary,” he said, adding: “We have a letter signed by our party’s National Working Committee constituting our election committee. And we are complete.”
Chairman of the Osun PDP primary election, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said Senator Adeleke polled 1,887 votes to win the ticket of the party for the governorship poll.
Presenting the PDP Certificate of Return to Adeleke, Ewhrudjakpo disclosed that 1,916 delegates were accredited, while 24 invalid votes were recorded.
In the results sheet declared by Ewhrudjakpo, other aspirants like Dele Adeleke had 1 vote, Dotun Babayemi, 0; Akin Ogunbiyi, 0; Fatai Akinbade, 0 and Sanya Omirin, 4.
