Again, suspected herdsmen attack Enugu community, scores feared killed

No fewer than 10 persons have been reported killed as suspected herdsmen on Sunday morning morning launched an attack on Ebor, Eha-Amufu community in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.
It was gathered that the gunmen who stormed the community in their numbers overwhelmed security operatives.
A native of the community, Gabriel Agbo who described the attack as the highest in recent time, told Journalist that the gunmen came at about 6a.m in the morning.
Agbo said: “today’s attack was the highest in Eha-Amufu as the numbers of the herdsmen who trooped in from Benue State outnumbered security operatives
“Our people were ambushed and killed in the bush like animals, we are yet to confirm the number of the casualties
“The attackers came in as early as 6am today and started shooting, even security operatives were helpless as they could not confront them. As I am talking to you, they are still shooting,” he said
“We are still combing bushes to know how many people were killed so I can’t tell you the numbers of casualties at the moment.
“State government and security operatives should come to our rescue, our people are being killed in their fathers land. Only one armored tank was sent in this afternoon and this can not solve the situation,as we need more help,” he said
Also, a former Commissioner for Poverty Reduction and Human Development in the State, Godwin Ogenyi, who hails from the area, confirmed that about 10 persons were killed by the suspected herders.
Ogenyi, said “we have counted 10 corps and we are still searching as the attackers are still shooting and killing our people, it’s a terrible situation.
“It’s unfortunate that our people are nor more safe, as herdsmen now kill and sack our people from their homes.
“Eha-Amufu community is now like a grave yard, women don’t go to market again neither do farmers go to farm anymore.
Contacted, the Enugu State Police Command spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the attack.
He said, “sketchy report at my disposal shows that there was an attack. But the assailants were repelled by a Joint Police/Army team, that is currently trailing them.”
