Age grade system, catalyst for development in Igboland, says traditional ruler

Traditional ruler of Akpughuru Edda in Amato Autonomous Community of Edda West Development Centre in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Ezeogo Boniface Okoro, says the age grade system would continue to remain relevant in Igboland so long as it serves as catalyst for development.

Addressing his people during the traditional retirement ceremony of Ohabuike Age Grade of Akpughuru Edda on December 29, 2021, Ezeogo Okoro recalled that the fast pace of development in Igboland was facilitated by the age grade system which also helps in preserving Igbo culture.

According to the Royal Father, the Age Grade System has always seved a catalyst for infrastructural development and in Igboland from time immemorial.

He commended Ohabuike Age Grade for building and donating a four-bedroom apartment to the community as part of their contribution to development of Akpughuru Community.

While urging upcoming age grades  to emulate Ohabuike, he said Akpughuru lacked life -enhancing amenities which he listed to include good roads, potable water and health centre, among others.

The traditional ruler appealed to the state and local government authorities to come to the aid of his people by constructing the Enohia-Akpghuru-Owutu road to address communication difficulties being faced by the people and equally facilitate the economic growth of the community.

Chairman of Ohabuike Age Grade, Chief Clement Chima, expressed gratitude to God for giving members of the Age grade the grace to be alive to perform the ceremony.
