AGM: WIEN remains vehement on gender diversity __Umoren

Nigeria’s front line gender equity advocate, the Women In Energy Network (WIEN), has restated it commitment to driving gender diversity in the leadership of the industry by promoting excellence, integrity and innovation among the current and future female professionals in the industry.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Mrs Cecelia Aqua Umoren, declared at the group’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) hosted in Lagos that WIEN would remain the “beacon of progress, inclusion, and diversity in our industry.”
In welcoming new members and commending the leaders of the group, she pointed at the enormous achievements of WIEN in dismantling prejudices and bias against women in the industry, assuring the members that “together, we will continue to advance the opportunities, visibility, and influence of women in energy.”
She reflected reflect on the accomplishments of the past year, expressed gratitude for the dedication of WIEN Women, paid tribute to esteemed stakeholders and urged the women to “celebrate the powerful community we have built together.”
Mr Umoren attributed the “incredible strides” and progress the group recorded in the year to the dedication and hard work of every member; she called for their steadfast commitment and support for WIEN’s mission.
In congratulating new members inaugurated into the board of WIEN, Mr Umoren challenged them to infuse fresh perspectives to the leadership of the group and justify the faith and confidence in their ability to help grow WIEN to new heights.
To the group’s newest members who were inducted at the event, Mrs Umoren challenged them to stand out in the society and in the industry as symbols of “extraordinary women who are committed to making a difference, both within our industry and beyond.”
“We are excited to have you with us, and we look forward to the contributions and each of you will bring,” she told the new members.
Mrs Umoren also extended special appreciation to WIEN’s stakeholders and partners, pointing out that their support, trust and belief “in our mission was instrumental to our success, and fuels our ambition to make even greater impact.”
In advancing the Women In Energy Network as credible partner in harnessing full female capacity for overall socio-economic contribution to the growth of the nation, Mr Umoren called for “more collaborations and partnerships in the years to come.”
