Ajaero emerges new NLC president, replaces Wabba
General Secretary, National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Comrade Joe Ajaerohas emerged as the new President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), replacing Mr Ayuba Wabba.
Comrade Ajaero, who until his election as president was the congress’ Deputy President, emerged unopposed as the new labour leader at the just concluded 13th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the NLC held in Abuja.
Ajaero is also a Member, Presidential Committee on Tariff Adjustment and Titular representing Africa in the Global Union Federation Public Service International.
In his acceptance speech, Ajaero pledged his dedication to the issues of workers concerns and welfare.
“We shall once again be the guide of the Nigerian people, we shall cry their cry,” he said.
He commended the former NLC President, Ayuba Wabba for what he termed resilience even in the face of difficulties.
Ajaero is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FCIMC) and Member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Nigeria Industrial Relations Association (NIRA), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as well as an Associate Member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1990, a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Times Journalism Institute in 1994, a Masters Degree in Industrial and Labour Relations from the University of Lagos in 1998, and a Certificate in Advance Tariff Structuring and Subsidy Design Option from the IP3 Cape Town, South Africa, in 2003.
He has held various positions including Secretary/Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Vanguard Chapter, Member Central Working Committee and National Executive Council of the NUJ (1997-1999) and National Ex-Officio (1997-1999).
