Akin Ricketts is a role model in Nigerian politics Albert Gaul
From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
A Lagos- based political leader in Cross River State, Hon. Albert Gaul says the Board Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Akin Ricketts is a role model in Nigerian politics.
He also called on him to assume the political leadership of the Yakurr Nation in Central Cross River State.
Gaul stated this in a statement made available to the media in Calabar and which he titled “The Essence of True Leadership in our Society”.
In his words, “We are blessed to have a political leader like him.
“He is a perfect role model, in this nation (Nigeria).
“I wish the world will have more people like him so that this world will become a better place”, he said.
He enumerated a number of qualities a leader should possess and maintained that it is imperative for Chief Ricketts take up the political leadership of the Yakurr Nation.
“Indeed, Yakurr as a heterogeneous society needs a selfless leader imbued with a sense of patriotism, social justice and the ability to create a viable and enabling polity.
“It’s pertinent to understand that, the Yakurr nation has very few inspiring political leaders, whose attributes justify craftsmanship as opposed to just being a politician of me, myself, and my family.
“Chief Akin Ricketts, has so far demonstrated integrity, and a willingness to stand up for what is right, even if it means resigning a position in government or losing an election”, he said.
Hon. Gaul also said Chief Ricketts always considers the interest of his followers and this is justified by the fact that he influenced the appointment of 36 persons.
He explained that in every society, people need leadership, especially leadership that is purposeful, vision oriented and committed to solving problems in order to permanently secure the well-being of society.
He said though Chief Ricketts contested and lost the primaries under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River Central Senatorial District he never went to court to challenge the outcome of the party’s primaries.
He maintained that even when the Federal High Court, Abuja nullified the party’s Senate primaries and ordered for a rerun, he showed sportsmanship and decided to withdraw from the rerun primary election.
He equally added that with humility and respect for tradition, despite his heavy appointment, he participated in the December 28, 2022, Ijiman Okurubong Ukwa Celebration.
The event was celebrated in honour of the Late Obol Lopon of Ugep and the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, His Royal Majesty Obol Ubi Ujong Inah.
