Anambra 2021: Ezenwankwo joins growing list of aspirants

After months of consultation with friends and stakeholders in the Orumba North/South Federal Constituency, Okwudili Ezenwankwo has declared his aspiration to join the race for 2021 governorship polls in Anambra State. 

Ezenwankwo, a member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), made the declaration in a ceremony held at his country home of Nanka. 

He said his decision trailed his conviction that his people found him worthy to succeed the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano.

Ezenwankwo is the incumbent lawmaker respresenting Orumba North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

He told a crowded audience at Nanka Civil Center, that on December 28, 2020, traders from various markets in Anambra along with political pressure groups, party chieftains persuaded him to contest the governorship race on the grounds that he has the exposure and capacity to be governor. 

A businessman and prominent market leader, the lawmaker said that he decided to answer the clarion call to join the race. 

He told the crowd that despite his decision, he is aware that it is God who will determine who becomes the next Governor of Anambra.

He added that, “after consulting God in prayers and accepted the invitation to run, I need your support and your prayers.” 

He assured that “when I am elected I will consolidate on the giant strides of Obiano. I will build on Obiano’s tight security measures to lift Anambra to the next pedestal.

“The airport project at Umeri embarked upon by Obiano is clearly one of the best things to happen in Anambra and it will be a priority because when fully completed, it will open the State to the world.”

Fancying his chances of picking the party ticket, he said that he has been an instrument in the growth of APGA since 2006 helping the party to win successive governorship elections and getting the party’s nomination for 2021 will be a payback time.

He added “as a market leader in for over a decade, I was key to the success of APGA in mobilising traders across the State, so when I am elected, I will ensure that the party remains indomitable in the State.”

He assured that he is comptently equiped to take Anambra to greater heights through good governance in all sectors. 

Assuring him of the support of the stakeholders, the traditional ruler of Nanka Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, the President General of Nanka Town Union, Chief Paul Chinedu, leaders of women and youth admitted that the lawmaker was qualified  to lead Anambra.

A spokesman of a traders group Chief Chuma Eruchalu said that “the traders are excited to hear that he yielded to our request to contest the 2021 polls. We will support him morally and financially.”
