Ahead of the 2021 governorship election in Anambra State, some political watchers are focusing on the Managing Director Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Dr George Moghalu.
The growing interest on Moghalu might also be linked with the new attention the APC is generating in the South East.
It is believed that the movement of Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi from the People’sDemocratic Party (PDP) to the APC has heightened the popularity of the APC in the South East.
According to analysts, the suspicion surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari’s report card in the South East is lifting with two states under APC and the reality surrounding the construction of second Niger Bridge.
Also, they point out that the reconstruction of some federal roads in the South East will improve the chances of APC in the November governorship election in Anambra.
Moghalu’s chances as the likely beneficiary is further strengthened by his strong root in the party and popularity in the state.
Dr Ejike Nwangwu, a public affairs analyst said that 2021 might be Moghalu’s year in Anambra going by the fact that he has a lot of experience in the political process in Nigeria and has made a name as an outstanding party loyalist in the country with a single political line up since 1999.
According to Nwangwu: “I see Moghalu as the outstanding quality with which the APC can fly competitively stronger in Anambra.
“If the party wishes to give other contenders a good fight in the Anambra 2021 polls and possibly win the election, I look at Moghalu as the right choice for the party.”
