Anambra 2021: INEC may announce winner by Monday, confirms receiving results from 19 LGAs
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may announce winner of the Anambra Governorship election by Monday, as the commission has confirmed receiving results from 19 local government areas (LGAs) in the state, except for two councils.
There are 21 local government areas in Anambra State.
So far, the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and its candidate, Prof Charles Soludo lead from results from 10 local government areas with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo winning just one council.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Andy Uba is a distant third going by the results announced by INEC so far.
INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee, Barrister Festus Okoye, confirmed, Sunday morning, at the Commission’s office in Awka, that election results from jut two local government areas were expected.
Though he did not mention the local government areas, he said the announcement of the local government results would resume from this Sunday morning.
With collation of results actively taking centre stage at the Commission’s Secretariat in Awka, it is expected that the final result of the poll which started on Saturday, November 6 and extended into Sunday, November 7, will be made available by the commission by Monday.
The 11 local government areas with results fully released by INEC include; Orumba South, Nnewi North, Njikoka, Onitsha North, Idemili, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Aniocha, Oyi, Awka South and Dunukofia.
While Soludo has won 10 out of the 11 councils, the YPP candidate, Ifeanyi Uba claimed one council, Nnewi North.
