Anambra 2021: PDP hails Appeal Court ruling affirming Ozigbo as candidate, party ‘optimistic of victory’
Main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, for the November 6, 2021 Anambra State governorship election.
A statement by the party, Friday, thanked the judiciary for ‘restoring peace and unity in the PDP as well as strengthening the confidence of the people in the PDP ahead of the election.’
The party in the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, noted that with the judgement, ‘the time has come for all members, critical stakeholders and teeming supporters of our party to come together as a family to work in the interest of our party and our candidate, Ozigbo, knowing that the people of Anambra state are waiting for the PDP to restore the loses of the past years under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).’
“The PDP thanks all stakeholders of our party for their resilience in keeping our ranks closed despite the challenges, while enjoining all members to put the past behind and work in the renewed hope that awaits us on November 6,” the statement read.
It would be recalled that earlier Friday, the Court of Appeal, Awka Division, sitting in Abuja declared Valentine Ozigbo the authentic governorship candidate of (PDP for the November 6, 2021, governorship election in Anambra State.
The Court recognised the gubernatorial primary conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP on June 26, 2021 at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre which produced Ozigbo as lawful.
This is just as the court further awarded a cost of N10 million against Senator Ugochukwu Ubah for being a meddlesome interloper.
The 3-man panel of Justices presided by Honourable Justice Dongban Mensa, subsequently and immediately ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of Valentine Ozigbo as the candidate of the PDP on its website.
On July 5, 2021, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, had instituted a suit against the party and its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo and (INEC), challenging Ozigbo’s candidature for the November 6, 2021 governorship election.
