Anglican Church thumbs up for Otti, urges him to create jobs for youths
From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has applauded Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for transforming the state since he came into office 11 months ago.
Bishop of Umuahia Diocese of Anglican Church, The Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Obijuru Ibeabuchi, made the commendation in Umuahia while delivering his Presidential Address during the First Session of the 11th Synod in the 30 years of Umuahia Diocese of the Church.
The event is holding at the All Saints Anglican Parish, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia where Bishop Ibeabuchi posited that God brought Otti to power in Abia at the right time.
“We are proud of your leadership that in less than 11 months, you have changed the face of Abia State. The state has become a construction site. The three senatorial zones of the state are feeling the impact of your administration and constructions are going on everywhere, both in our towns, cities and remote communities.
“We are glad that civil servants are paid regularly and timely. We have always cried out about our pensioners but today, their story is different.
You are not just paying them, you are clearing their arrears. As a Church, we say thank you.
“We highly commend the activities of our state government under the able leadership of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti . We give thanks to God for bringing Dr. Alex Otti to power in times like this,” he said.
He assured the Governor of the support of the church but advised him to be wary of psychophants.
“Your Excellency, you have our support in all things good and honest. We are impressed with your leadership and pray that God will help you to remain focused and undistracted.
“Be careful with sycophants who want to destroy your administration by all means for their own selfish interests,” warned the Minister of God.
He however urged the Governor to pay attention to job creation so that Abia youths could invest their zestful energies in productive ventures, instead of taking to crime.
Making requests on the Governor, Bishop Ibeabuchi said: “Create employment opportunities for the youths, improve and increase production of goods and services that will keep Abia youths busy so as to avoid criminality in the state.”
He reminded the Governor of the promises he made to the church during his campaigns, including handing over mission schools to their owners, as well as assisting the church to complete its Cathedral still under construction.
He complained that the process for returning the mission schools to their original owners was tardy and should he hastened.
