Angry youths on rampage as soldiers allegedly kill one in Delta

Hundreds of youths of Ogulagha in Burutu local government area of Delta State,went on rampage Tuesday following the alleged killing of a 27-year-old man.
The deceased identified as Endurance Oweiye Kalaepele, was reportedly gunned down by soldiers guarding the Forcados Terminal in the late hours of Monday, June 27.
Irked by the incident, youths of the community went on a rampage, destroying company vehicles and other valuables who demanded the SPDC to take responsibility of the incident.
Confirming the incident, the Youth President of Ogulagha community, Comrade ThankGod Iyoragba, said the deceased in company of three others had gone to pick snails in the forest close to the Forcados Terminal, when the soldiers accosted them.
According to Iyoragba, Endurance was frightened by the sight of the soldiers and resorted to take to his heels, before being shot.
He said, “we are doing our best to calm the tension because the youths are very angry. The deceased was shot at in a close range in the company of three of his colleagues.They went to pick snails before they were accosted by the soldiers.”
He called on the SPDC to own up to the incident to calm the situation without delay.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said he had not been briefed of the incident, promising to revert to our correspondent with further details.
When contacted, the Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, Hon. Godknows Angele confirmed the story, saying that the situation has been put under control by the police.
