APC chieftain promises fair, credible APC LGA Congress in Abia

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds her Local Government Congress Saturday, September 4, 2021, nationwide,  Chairman of the Committee sent to conduct the Congress in Abia State, Hon. Sonny Israel Goli, has assured that the Committee would conduct fair and credible congresses in the 17 local government areas of the state.

Goli told newsmen in Umuahia Friday afternoon that he expects the exercise to be peaceful, even as the State Youth Leader, Hon. Ikenna Anyalwechi, said that youth of the party have been fully mobilized to ensure that the congresses were successful across the state.

Goli, flanked by Secretary of the Congress Committee, Muktar Bajeh, during a news briefing, said the Committee was prepared to discharge its mandate, having met with relevant stakeholders of the party since they arrived Umuahia.

“The APC LG Congresses are taking place nationwide, tomorrow. We are here to also do same work for the party tomorrow. We are were here to conduct the Ward Congresses which was done some months back and this is a follow-up of the Ward Congress and we have been able to meet with the stakeholders in the state.

“The committees that will go to the various LGAs to conduct the Congresses have been formed and we expect a very peaceful congress tomorrow. We are going to be fair to all those who are members of APC who are entitled to contest for whatever position they want to contest at the Local Government Level. “So, we will be here to monitor the congress tomorrow and the results will be announced at the various local government headquarters and I will take it back to Abuja for submission,” Goli said.

In an interview with The Oracle Today, the Abia APC Youth Leader, Ikenna Anyalewechi, said he shared in the optimism of the Congress Committee Chairman that the Local Government Congresses would be peaceful.

“Regarding the LGA Congresses tomorrow, the party leadership from the National recognized High Chief Ikechi Emenike as the Leader of the party in Abia State and the Congress Committee members have arrived Umuahia and we are just waiting for the congress proper tomorrow.

“With regards to security and mobilization, I have done my possible best, with my executive,” to mobilize the youths across the state. We are very very ready for the local government congress. Some of our youths are contesting as Youth Leaders or Assistant Youth leaders in the 17 LGAs and they are all able and I believe and trust they will deliver.

“We have advised them against causing trouble and I believe that they would work to support those who would conduct the congresses,” Anyalewechi said.

Also an aspirant to the position of Organizing Secretary in Umuahia North Local Government, Chief Nkemakolam Chukwudi, said he expected the Congress Committee to provide level playing ground for all contestants because the party expects that only credible candidates capable of actualizing her dream of taking over government in Abia would emerge.

“APC is working hard to redeem Abia from the hegemony that is drawing her backward and that is why we expect the emergence of party members who are committed to this cause,” said Chukwudi.

He said another reason why he believed that the exercise would fair and credible was that the party hierarchy was aware of the implications of imposition of candidates.

“We know what is happening in the other parties, how they are fighting and bickering within their ranks which are direct consequences of not having fair congresses. This time, our party is taking our time to make sure credible persons are elected,” he said, adding “the Ward Congress was very peaceful and fair and I believe same is going to happen this time around.”
