APC dissolves Ebonyi SWC, as Buhari commends Umahi for defecting

All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has dissolved the party’s Ebonyi State Working Committee (SWC). This is just as President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday, commended Governor Dave Umahi over his defection to the ruling party, Tuesday.

Chairman, APC Caretaker Extraordinary/Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni

In dissolving the Ebonyi SWC, the APC said the development follows the ‘refusal of factions to withdraw court cases as directed by the 8th resumed meeting of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) and submit to internal party resolution mechanisms.’

The party in a statement issued, late Wednesday, subsequently appointed a new 15-man caretaker committee to run its affairs in Ebonyi State.

“A 15-member caretaker committee has subsequently been appointed by the APC CECPC to manage the party’s affairs and carry out the planned membership registration, update, and revalidation exercise in Ebonyi State,” it said.

The new Ebonyi APC Caretaker Committee include; Stanley Okoro as Chairman, John Nwankata – Vice Chairman (North), Peter Nworie Ndubuisi – Vice Chairman (Central), Ozoemena Njoku – Vice Chairman (South), Charles Ofoke – Secretary, Engr. Ogbonnaya Igboke – Organising Secretary, Chidi Ogbuatu – Publicity Secretary, Barr. Ikaa Ukeni – Legal Adviser.

Others are; Chief Paulinus Ali (Zomo) – Treasurer, Chief Joseph Ozibo – Financial Secretary, Ogochukwu David Elem – Youth Leader, Odo Oluchi Juliet – Women Leader, Ogbonna David Nshii – Auditor, Adum Uchenna Basil –Physically Challenged, and Francis Obike Nweze – Welfare Secretary.

“As the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led CECPC repositions our great party, we urge our supporters, members and leaders in Ebonyi state and other chapters to support and work towards the achievement of the peace and reconciliation mandate of the CECPC,” the party said.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the defection of the Ebonyi Governor, David Umahi, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it ‘as a bold move driven purely by principle rather than opportunistic motives.’

Reacting to the defection, Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity quoted his principal as saying: “I am proud of Governor David Umahi for taking this bold decision in accordance with his conscience and principles rather than any external influence or coercion.”

According to the President, “Good governance is very important to us in the APC, and I’m glad that the governor has cited this as a major factor in his decision to join us.”

I urge our citizens to pay less emphasis on identity politics if we want our democracy to make a positive impact on our country.”

He noted that “with men like Umahi, I foresee a brighter future for our democracy because the voters will be more motivated by performance records of parties and their candidates.”

“Let me once again; commend the boldness of Governor Umahi for taking this courageous decision in a country where principles are in short supply among many.”

“I know people might call him names, but that is the price men of principles have to pay for acting according to their conscience and convictions” President Buhari added.
