APC rejects Akpabuyo state constituency by-election result

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has rejected the outcome of the Akpabuyo State Constituency by-election.
The Akpabuyo by-election was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), last Saturday, alongside the Ogoja/yala federal Constituency by-election in Cross River State.
While the APC candidate clinched the Ogoja/Yala bye-election, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the Akpabuyo state poll.
Since the conduct of the poll, last Saturday, the PDP in Cross River has lodged a petition against the outcome of the Ogoja/Yala election, accusing INEC of compromising the exercise.
The APC disclosed this in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary Erasmus Ekpang.
The party while rejecting the results in which they finished second to the PDP said it uncovered mind boggling malpractices.
The statement said in part: “The All Progressives Congress, APC has after a detailed review of the Akpabuyo State Constituency election discovered the mind boggling malpractice and electoral fraud perpetuated by the Peoples democratic Party, PDP.
“The Party rejects in its entirety the outcome of the February 26th, 2022 Akpabuyo State Constituency election.
“The result as declared by INEC was not a true reflection of the actual voting.
“The APC will not allow declaration of the PDP Candidate as winner of the election to stand.
“Brazen manipulation and distortion of figures by the PDP characterised the election and we are primed to use legal means to correct this anomaly”, he said.
The statement added that the party will be heading to the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election.
