APC retains all three senatorial seats in Lagos, as Abaribe, Lawan, others return to Upper Chamber
Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has retained all its three seats at the senate, in addition to securing 20 House of Representatives positions in the state.
While current Reps Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila retained his seat in the Surulere Constituency, immediate past deputy governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, won the Lagos West senatorial election.
Adebule polled 361,296 votes to defeat her main challenger of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewale, who scored 248,653 votes.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Lagos West Senatorial District Collation Officer, Prof Solomon Akinboye, expressed satisfaction in the conduct of the election.
INEC also returned Senator Tokunbo Abiru as winner of Lagos East senatorial election.
INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Simeon Adebayo Oladipo, who declared the results in Somolu, said Abiru polled 178,646 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akodada Nicholas Adekunle, who garnered 80,249 votes.
Abiru is the incumbent senator representing the senatorial district.
Lagos Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun, beat PDP’s Gomez Adewale Francis to clinch the Lagos Central Senatorial District.
Eshinlokun garnered 131,828 votes, while Francis polled 69,320 votes and OIadeji Blessing Tunde of the Young Progressives Party scored 14, 941 votes to become second runner-up.
APC has also cleared the House of Representatives seats in Lagos, with Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila being elected for the sixth time. APC won 20 of the 24 Reps seats in the just concluded federal elections.
Meanwhile, across the country, the APC has so far won 51 seats at the senate, out of the 92 already declared by the INEC.
There are a total of 109 senatorial seats at the Nigerian senate.
The Labour Party won five seats, while the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), got two seats each. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured a Senate seat. Seventeen seats are left for grab.
In Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Katsina and Ebonyi, the ruling party made a clean sweep, winning all 27 senatorial seats in those states. But, the PDP cleared the seats in Osun, and surprisingly, it won all the three slots in Kaduna, an APC-controlled state.
Similarly, the APC won three seats in Oyo State and took two of the three seats declared by INEC in Taraba, a PDP controlled state.
Also, in the Southwest, the APC cleared 15 of the 18 seats, while the PDP took the remaining three seats.
