Armed robbers wreak havoc in Edo, attack three banks, kill policeman
Armed robbers, Thursday afternoon, attacked three commercial banks in Edo State, in operations that lasted for over an hour, killing a policemen stationed at one of the banks in the process.
The attacks which occurred Uromi, in the Esan North East Local Government was confirmed by the Edo State Police Command spokesman, SP Bello Kontongs.
According to the police command’s Public Relations Officer, the attacks were ‘true,’ though not confirming the casualty figure.
Commercial banks attacked by the robbers include, Zenith Bank, UBA and First Bank.
“The armed robbers laid siege, right from Angle 90 Junction in Uromi, through Tazona Junction, with heavy gunfire and explosives, while three commercial banks were simultaneously attacked.
“A metallic/silver Toyota Lexus 350 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was fully loaded with cash, which the armed robbers hurriedly escaped with while moving towards Ubiaza’s old road and shooting sporadically to scare passersby and prevent any challenge from security operatives,” an eyewitness said.
