Armed sit-at-home enforcers attack Enugu community, as police threaten appropriate response

Armed hoodlums suspected to be enforcing the sit-at-home order on Monday engaged in indiscriminate attacks across the Enugu metropolis.
They were reportedly shooting sporadically, making residents of the state to scamper for safety.
It was gathered that places such as Amechi Awkunanaw, Holy Ghost market, Okpara Avenue, Trans-Ekulu, Abakpa, Nike road among others, thrown into chaos.
The hoodlums reportedly set ablaze a commercial bus and tricycle in the area.
Shops, markets and other businesses places were shutdown following the incident.
Meanwhile, the Enugu state police command has vowed to cripple activities of miscreants enforcing sit-at-home order in the state.
Police Public Relations officer, Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe, assured citizens of their safety, and urged them to go about their daily activities without any fear of intimidation.
“Following the alleged cases of sporadic shootings at Topland Amechi-Awkunanaw, snatching and burning a of Toyota Sienna vehicle and a tricycle at Umueze and Agbani axis of Nkanu West LGA of the State, by miscreants alleged to be enforcing illegal sit-at-home order, which caused panic within Enugu metropolis in the morning hours of monday, citizens of Enugu metropolis and the State in general, are hereby assured that the Police, in collaboration with other Security Agencies, has brought the situation under control.
“Consequently, law-abiding citizens of the State have been enjoined to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment.
“Police and other Security Operatives, have been duly deployed to further thwart the untoward activities of the miscreants in the State. Further development will be communicated,” the police spokesman said.
