As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurates the $800 million, 188 megawatts Geometric Power plant in Aba, Abia State,  today, Monday, February 26, 2024, Governor Aex Otti says the journey to industrialisation in the state has just commenced.

President Tinubu would also Commission three newly reconstructed roads in Aba.

Governor Otti also commended the Chief Executive Officer of Geometric Power Limited, Prof. Barth Nnaji, for his resilience in establishing the power generation and distribution firm in the Enyimba commercial city.

The Governor was speaking in a meeting with the South East Economic Community on the eve of the commissioning of the Geometric Power Plant which construction started two decades ago.

Otti thanked Prof. Barth Nnaji for his belief in Aba and said that with the coming on stream of the power, the journey to industrialization has just started. 

He expressed joy that the uninterrupted power supply by Geometrics Power Plant would boost businesses of the shoe producers, fabric and garment makers, among other artisans. 

He said that responsible government supports businesses to thrive and assured that his administration would give Geometric Power Limited the needed support. 

Also speaking, Senator Darlington Nwokocha described Prof. Barth Nnaji as the pride of Nigeria who would always be celebrated as a man who gave Abia a negotiation tool for driving the Abia economy.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, said that the event would be a celebration of success made possible under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti and marks a turning point for Aba, the heartbeat of industralisation in  sub-Saharan Africa.

He described the project as the first of its kind in Nigeria while thanking Prof. Nnaji for having persevered in making sure that the power plant came to reality.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, Geometrics Power Limited, Prof. Barth Nnaji, said that the event was a happy one for him, having concluded a journey that started 20 years ago and thanked Governor Alex Otti for all his support and for reconstructing the road leading to the plant.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the inauguration of Geometric Power Limited, the Abia State government would also commission three newly reconstructed roads in Aba.

The roads are Omoba Road, Jubilee Road and Queens Street. They bring to nine, the total number  of roads rehabilitated in Aba  by  the Dr Alex Otti- led administration  since its inception.

A statement endorsed by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed that the roads would be commissioned by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Commissioner noted that the imauguration of both the roads and Geometric Power Plant would boost Aba economy.

He therefore enjoined  members of the Aba business community to come out in their numbers to witness these epoch  making events.
