Ashiru beats Senator Shehu Sani to clinch Kaduna PDP ticket
Isah Ashiru has emerged the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship elections in Kaduna State after a convincing win in the Wednesday’s gubernatorial primaries.
Ashiru who is a former legislator at the National Assembly thrashed popular public commentator and issues analyst, Senator Shehu Sani, who had vowed not to bribe delegates to buy their votes in the contest.
Ashiru scored 414 votes to the win the contest which featured mainly influential politicians from the state and former puplic office holders in the state.
The results which were announced early Thursday showed that Senator Sani scored only two votes to end up as the least contender for the race. Former director-general of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sani Sidi, scored 260 votes; former governor of the state, Ramalan Yero, secured 28 votes; and former accountant general in the state, Haruna Saeed, had 11 votes; and another contender, Sani Abbas, secured 15 votes.
In accepting the outcome of the contest and congratulating the winner, Senator Sani pointed out that the two votes he scored were clean and out of genuine persuasion. He congratulated whoever cast the two votes for him, describing them as clean.
“Two delegates voted for me without giving them a dime; unfortunately, I don’t know who they are so that I can appreciate these clean votes. We look forward,” the senator declared on his Twitter handle.
