Bandits’ attack: Sultan of Sokoto did not escape through window – Police
Police have debunked social media claims that the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, escaped through a window as bandits broke into a mosque to kidnap 48 worshippers.
Reacting to the claims which went viral on social media, Wednesday, the Sokoto Police Command said there was no such attack in state by bandits.
In a statement titled; ‘Sultan of Sokoto escapes from the window as bandits break into state Mosque kidnap 48 worshippers,’ by the state command’s spokesman, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, the police stated that there was no such attack in Sokoto State, urging the general public to disregard such news.
The statement with Ref/No: AZ/5250/SKS/PRD/VOL.III/196 Date:15/12/2021 NO ATTACK ON STATE MOSQUE AND KIDNAP OF 48 WORSHIPPERS AS ALLEGED, debunked the social media reports.
“The attention of Sokoto State Police Command has been drawn to the above purported news in circulation on Social Media.
“That, arm bandits break into Sokoto State mosque and kidnap 48 worshippers. In view of the above, the Command is using this medium to debunk such fabricated stories capable of misleading the general public and creating chaos in the minds of law-abiding citizens of Sokoto State.
“It is pertinent to state that members of the public should be wary against deception and lies concocted by unverified news websites and further replicated in many online publications,” read the statement.
