‘Bandits operated for several hours in presence of 500 Nigerian soldiers,’ Senator Sani claims, as police confirm three dead in attack on Niger Emir’s palace, Force HQ
Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three people by suspected bandits who stormed the palace of the Emir of Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of the state in broad daylight.
Commissioner of Police in Niger, Mr. Monday Kuryas, confirmed the incident n Minna, the Niger State capital on Wednesday. He said the incident occurred at about 5.30pm on Tuesday, adding that the gunmen numbered over 100 attackers.
The police spokesman revealed that the bandits were able to gain entry into the Emir’s palace; as well as the divisional police headquarters in the area.
He said a policeman and two civilians were gunned down by the attackers during the incident.
Similarly, he said some gunmen also attacked Kachiwe village in Sarkin Pawa headquarters of Munya Local Government Area.
He said the bandits sneaked from their hideout in Kaduna State to execute the heinous act.
‘’I don’t have the actual number of people killed during the attack,” he said.
However, the commissioner said that the command was not resting on its oars; especially in its effort to rid the state of crime and criminality; even as he appealed to residents of the state to provide timely information to security agencies. Further, he said investigation into the matter had commenced to enable them to track down the perpetrators of the criminal act.
A team of policemen have been dispatched to the area to safeguard lives and property of people of Sarkin Pawa, he revealed.
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, former senator that representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Senator Shehu Sani, said the attack happened in the presence of over 500 soldiers of the Nigerian military, even as he disclosed that the bandits kidnapped scores of people.
According to a recent tweet he made on his verified twitter handle, he stated it clearly that bandits invaded Kagara, a town in Niger State in broad daylight, raided the market and the Emir’s palace and also kidnapped scores of people.
Speaking further, he revealed that the bandits operated for several hours in the presence of 500 soldiers.
