Battle for the control of Abia chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by two factions has shifted to the judiciary as a court in the state has barred the National Secretariat of the party from accepting the result of the Saturday, July 31, Ward Congress from the Committee headed by Hon. Sunny Goli.
The High Court sitting in the Ukwa Judicial Division of Abia State and presided over by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu, ruling on motion exparte brought by Davies Jumbo and Engr. John Nnah (defendants) issued the interim order restraining the National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Committee (CECPC) of APC from receiving, accepting or acting upon any list of successful candidates for the APC Ward Congress in Abia from the seven-man Congress Committee pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, disclosed the latest development in the party to newsmen Thursday at the party secretariat along Azikiwe Road, Umuahia.
Nwankpa also announced the postponement of the inauguration of the ward executive that emerged during last Saturday’s ward Congress in the State as a result of the court action brought against the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led National Committee, and 11 others, including himself, by the Chairmanship Candidates from the 184 electoral Wards in the state.
The Court order dated 4th august, 2021, which was sighted by The Oracle Today, also restrained the APC from conducting Local government and State Congresses in Abia, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on Notice.
“There is no cause for alarm, what we are concerned about is let due process be followed, I am not running for Chairmanship position of the Party in the State, so, I believe in following due process in every process, especially allowing people to choose who to lead them and not to impose people on the party,” said Nwankpa.
He revealed that despite what is happening in the party, the Party was still intact, adding “we cannot because of the inordinate ambition of one person say that there are crises in the Party.”
The Abia APC Caretaker Committee Chairman who used the forum to announce that Ward 3 of the party in Arochukwu local government area has suspended one of its members, Mazi Enyii Harbor, for alleged impersonation and anti-party activities.
He said the suspended party member had claimed to be the State Party Chairman, a position which he never was elected or has occupied at any time.
