Be quality conscious at all times, SON charges C’River manufacturers

The standards organisation of Nigeria, SON, has charged manufacturers in Cross River State to be quality conscious at all times.
The organisation said this is of paramount importance as it will manufacturers break even in their businesses.
Mallam Farouk Salim the Director General /CEO of SON disclosed this in Calabar during a stakeholders sensitization forum which had as theme: SON: Your Partner in Progress for Business Boom via andardisation.
The Director General who spoke through Usman Mohammed, the director of the South/South Region of SON listed a number of benefits that is associated with quality products.
“Customers expect you to deliver quality products, if you don’t, they will quickly look for alternatives.
“Quality is critical to customers satisfaction which in turn ensures continuous patronage and resultant increase in services, output and profitability.
“This implies that the benefits of producing and consuming quality brands of products is of paramount importance, therefore,SON implores you to be quality conscious at all times in order to break even in your businesses”, he said.
The DG/CE tasked manufacturers to strive to sustain good manufacturing practice and production of quality products and services.
He added that “consumption of quality products will lead to healthy living, which in turn leads to reduction in mortality rate, increase in savings and cost reduction all of which will lead to economic growth and development not only in Cross River State but the entire country at large”, he said.
He said the aim of the sensitization is to enlighten manufacturers in Cross River State on the need to adhere to the requirements of standards.
Also speaking, Richard Adewumi, the director of marketing at SON said about four hundred firms in the country have received the Management Systems Certification to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Chief Emeka Duru, the Senior Special Adviser to the DG/CE and national coordinator of sensitization programmes said a platform like this is used to interface with stakeholders and create awareness so that businesses can move forward.
On his part, Engr. Ninma Apim, the Cross River State coordinator of SON said the sensitization is aimed at harmonizing services and facilities to produce quality goods.
He added that it will provide a benchmark for regulating the overall performance of the industry in order to compete globally, thereby providing confidence to customers.
Usen Umoh, from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria on his part said said MAN will continue to partner with SON to ensure that locally manufactured goods are always up to standard.
