Bearish trends continues as NGX-ASI declines by 0.21%
Nigeria’s equities market closed negative on Monday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 97,626.27 from 97,829.02 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +30.56%.
Market capitalization decreased by N123 billion to N59.169 trillion from N59.292 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. However, the market turnover increased to N10.640 billion from N6.067 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 671,260,264 shares in 10,464 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,639,893,708.83, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, November 22), today’s data shows 83% improvement in volume, 75% improvement in turnover, and 8% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 30 losers. Haldane McCall led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 5.61 per share, followed by Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+9.81%), NCR Nigeria (+9.72%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (+9.52%).
On the losing side, Secure Electronic Technology came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.84% at NGN 0.55 per share, followed by Daar Communications (-9.68%), Austin Laz & Company (-9.4%) and Guinea Insurance (-9.09%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 245 million traded shares, followed by Haldane McCall (47.1m), Tantalizers (35.3m) and Guinea Insurance (32.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 202.75 (-0.21%) points to close at 97,626.27, representing a 1-week loss of 0.12%, a 4-week loss of 1.1%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.56%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.3%; -0.25% 1WK; +31.54% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.69%; +4.83% 1WK; +50.89% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.03%; +2.17% 1WK; +42.27% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.16%; -0.14% 1WK; +37.01% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.16%; +0.92% 1WK; +29.02% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.24%; +0.02% 1WK; +132.24% YTD).
