Benin Republic releases Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho
The Government of the Republic of Benin on Monday, March 7, 2022, released Yoruba Nation Activist, Sunday Adeyemo Ighoho, to Yoruba Leader, Banji Akintoye, French language expert, Professor Wale Adeniran.
A statement by the Communications Secretary to Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Mr Maxwell Adeleye, the Leader of the Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Akintoye described the release of Ighoho as a “Triumph of Truth over Darkness in Yoruba Land.”
Igboho had escaped a raid on his Ibadan residence in Oyo State by the Department of State Service (DSS) on July 1, 2021
He was then declared wanted by the DSS after his house was raided last year.
Igboho was later arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, the Republic of Benin on his way to Germany on July 19 with his wife, Ropo.
The West African country had accused Igboho of illegally owning its passport.
