Breaking: PDP screens 17 presidential aspirants, disqualifies two
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disqualified two out of its 17 presidential aspirants seeking its ticket to contest the 2023 election.
The two disqualified aspirants are to forfeit the N40 million each of them paid for the expression of interest and nomination forms.
The chairman of the presidential screening committee, Senator David Mark, announced the disqualification of the two aspirants Friday evening
The affected candidates and reasons for their disqualification are yet to be ascertained.
When asked if the screening committee made any recommendation to the party to refund the N80 million nomination fees paid by the aspirants, Mark said: “Why should the party refund the money?”
The 17 aspirants screened included a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other aspirants in Abuja.Other PDP aspirants who have faced the panel Friday are a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; a United States based medical doctor, Nwachukwu Anakwenze and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
Incumbent Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike is also being screened as at the time of filling this report.
Also awaiting their turn to be screened are: a former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi; and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.
