Buhari appoints former Reps member as new Postmaster General of NIPOST
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Adepoju Sunday as the new Postmaster General (PMG)/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
This is contained in a statement signed by Uwa Suleiman, the spokesperson to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, Wednesday in Abuja.
“The appointment followed the recommendations made by Pantami,” the statement read, adding further that Sunday was appointed for an initial term of five years.
The new appointee is a professional accountant and a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo state.
The appointment of the new PMG of NIPOST is with immediate effect.
It would be recalled that Federal Government, penultimate week, suspended the former Postmaster-General of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), Ismail Adewusi.
Adewusi was suspended over issues relating to the stamp duty collection and alleged financial misappropriation.
Adewusi was reported to have been in a superiority tussle with some members of the NIPOST board, leading up to his reported suspension from duty earlier.
Following Adewusi’s suspension, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Pantami, has approved the appointment of Bulus Samuila Yakubu, as acting Postmaster-General of the Federation/CEO.
Bulus, who has a bachelor’s degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, joined NIPOST in 1990.
Bulus who hails from Takum Town in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, until his appointment, was the Secretary to NIPOST Governing Board, and Director (Special Duties).
The appointment of Bulus in the acting capacity had followed earlier denial by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) of reports claiming that President Muhamadu Buhari had sacked Adewusi.
In a statement signed by the Director Corporate Communications, NIPOST, Franklyn Alao, the agency said that the purported news ‘is false, reckless, mischievous and it is meant to mislead the public.’
The agency further advised ‘all stakeholders and the general public to disregard the malicious information.’
“Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi is in office performing his official duties working tirelessly to ensure the transformation of the agency and boost its quality of service, in line with best global practices.
“Since assuming office, NIPOST has witnessed Nobel ideas aimed at transforming its operations in line with the digital economy agenda of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“Such malicious fake news could only be the handiwork of those who do not wish the organization well in its commitment towards contributing to the overall economic transformation of Mr. President,” the statement by Alao read.
