Buhari reappoints Adeyeye as NAFDAC DG
Barely a month after the expiration of her first tenure, President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye for a second stint of five years as the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, who conveyed the approval of President Buhari to Prof. Adeyeye, said her fresh tenure is with effect from December 1, 2022.
A statement confirming the development also shared via the verified Twitter handle of the drug regulatory agency (@NafdacAgency), Friday, read: “Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye has been reappointed as the @DGatNAFDAC for the second and final tenure of five years.
“She stopped by briefly at the corporate headquarters in Abuja to meet with some Directors.”
It would be recalled that Adeyeye’s first tenure ended last November after Buhari delayed in renewing a second stint with the Dr Monica Eimunjeze being announced as replacement to head the agency on an interim basis.
Prof. Adeyeye’s five-year tenure as Director General of the agency had elapsed on November 2, as President Buhari failed to renew it, prompting the appointment of a replacement in Eimunjeze.
President Buhari appointed Adeyeye as the NAFDAC DG in November 2017 for a five-year renewable term.
However, an internal distributed by the Director of Human Resources Management, A. U. Oboli, to units and departments in NAFDAC, on November 18, informed of Adeyeye’s replacement.
The communication with reference number NAFDAC/ADM/SM/075 was addressed to the directors.
Oboli disclosed that the government had appointed Dr Monica Eimunjeze as the Acting Director-General with effect from November 12.
“I am therefore directed to bring this development to you for information and guidance,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Affairs of the agency, Dr Jimoh Abubakar, had similarly disclosed of a planned meeting between the then newly-appointed Acting DG, Eimunjeze with the Management staff of NAFDAC ‘to disclose her areas of focus.’
“The new D-G wants to hit the ground running, this is why she has decided to convene a meeting with directors of the agency on Tuesday, November 22.
“She wants to touch on what will be the focus of her administration, using the SWOT analysis and move in quick succession.
“What I mean by SWOT analysis is for her to look at the Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats for the agency.
“The meeting will also be looking at gap analysis, this is the process companies use to compare their current performance with their desired, expected performance and look whether we are meeting our expectations.
“All these will be geared toward improving the system,” Abubakar said.
However, in the notice confirming her reappointment, the SGF Mustapha said Adeyeye’s reappointment came closely on the heels of her track record of monumental achievements and successes in the last five years especially the attainment of World Health Organisation (WHO) Maturity Level 3.
She was initially appointed in 2017 and ended her first term of office on November 2, 2022.
Prof. Adeyeye officially assumed duty on Friday, December 30 was received by some staff at the Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
