Bullish trend continues as trading activities in the Nigerian Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 0.71% as the NGX-ASI increased to 68,359.22 from 67,877.17 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.38%.
Market capitalization increased today by N263 billion to N37.413 trillion from N37.149 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N5.89 billion from N8.92 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 676,736,144 shares in 7,659 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,893,547,003.50, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, September 18), today’s data shows 31% improvement in volume, 34% decline in turnover, and 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 35 gainers and 27 losers. Ellah Lakes led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.63 per share, followed by Berger Paints (+9.95%), E-Tranzact International (+9.93%) and Oando (+9.92%).
On the losing side, SCOA Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.26 per share, followed by Secure Electronic Technology (-10%), Multiverse Mining & Exploration (-9.93%) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (-8.76%).
Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 235 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (69.1m), Transcorp Nigeria (41.6m) and Fidelity Bank (34.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 482.05 (0.71%) points to close at 68,359.22, representing a 1-week gain of 2.4%, a 4-week gain of 4.38%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.38%.
