Chelsea in near clean sweep of prizes, as UEFA names winners for 2020/2021 Awards
European football governing body, UEFA, Thursday night held its 2020/2021 Awards ceremony for outstanding players in the just-concluded season.
The event which took place in Istanbul, Turkey coincides with the Group Stage draws for the 2021/2022 Champions League and Europa League season, as well as the newly-introduced Conference League.
The awards also come on the back of performance at the last Champions League competition which featured two English Premier League sides, Manchester City and Chelsea at the finals. Also, for the Europa League competition which featured Manchester United losing to Villareal of Spain, as well as the Euros Nations Cup that saw Italy beating England at the finals.
While Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy clinched the best goalkeeper award, his teammate, N’Golo Kante won the Best Midfielder prize.
Manchester City’s Ruben Dias claimed the Best Defender Award, Erling Braut Haaland of Borussia Dortmund claimed the Forward of the Year, and the top prize of UEFA Midfielder of the Year was won by the Chelsea and Italy player, Jorginho.
