Chevron reaffirms commitment to transparent recruitment process
Management of Chevron Nigeria Limited has restated its commitment to transparent and merit-based recruitment process, declaring that it ensures equal opportunities for all qualified candidates without interference by any party.
In a statement by the General Manager in charge of Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Olusoga Oduselu, the company rebutted reports that its officials were involved in derailing conversion of graduates under the Vocational Training Program (“VTP”) and Operations Training Program (“OTP”) to regular employees.
Chevron Nigeria Limited operates oil and gas exploration and production joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
Oduselu stated that the company considers the report purportedly by and online medium as misleading, saying the “assertion is not only misleading but also unfounded in its entirety.”
He stated that “CNL has always adhered to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, ensuring equal opportunities for all qualified candidates and devoid of interference by any party.”
He explained that the NNPCL/CNL’s sponsorship of the VTP and OTP was a corporate social responsibility initiative intended to train and help develop certain skills and capacity of selected beneficiaries from the local communities and other parts of Nigeria in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
He made it clear that the exercise “was not a recruitment process into CNL. CNL did not make any commitment in this regard to the beneficiaries.”
“CNL is an equal opportunity employer, and its recruitment process is transparent and fair and provides equal opportunity for all qualified candidates to participate in its hiring process based on organizational requirements and business needs. However, CNL encourages qualified candidates from communities neighbouring its operations to participate in its recruitment process.
“CNL reiterates its commitment, within available resources and opportunities, to continue working with its community stakeholders and other partners to maintain peace and contribute positively to sustainable community and socio-economic development,” the statement reads.
