‘Conveyor belts at Lagos airport undergoing routine maintenance’ – FAAN, dismisses reports of systems collapse
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has dismissed reports posted online of a system failure at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, following the disruption of services on its conveyor belts.
Pictures have take over the internet space depicted failure of the Lagos airport’s baggage handling system as passengers were left stranded while waiting for their luggage via the carousels.
However, FAAN, Wednesday, in a statement by its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, explained that ‘what is going on is routine maintenance of the conveyor belts,’ adding that ‘procedure is in line with our facilities maintenance system.’
“Contrary to the misinformation presently making the rounds online as depicted by some pictures posted suggesting a breakdown in the baggage processing system at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform passengers and the general public that what is going on is routine maintenance of the conveyor belts.
“The procedure is in line with our facilities maintenance system, aimed at ensuring optimal performance of the airport’s facilities.
“We therefore appeal to our highly esteemed stakeholders to please bear with us, as the maintenance work will soon be completed, Yakubu said.
