Court fixes March 17 to rule on Cross River Ohaneze leadership tussle
[From ANIEKAN ANIEKAN, Calabar]
High Court in Calabar has fixed March 17 to rule on a leadership dispute rocking the Cross River State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
The case with suit number HC/82C/2021 is between the IGP and Ugorji Nwabueze.
Ugorji Nwabueze who is an aide to the Cross River State governor Professor Ben Ayade is charged for forgery and impersonation as president of Ohaneze Ndigbo (Cross River State branch).
When the matter came up, presiding Judge Hon. Justice Bassey Ebuta stated that the court would not give ruling on the matter because the authority cited by counsel to defendant Prof. Jacob Dada was not provided.
Justice Ebuta had earlier adjourned the case to March 8 to enable both parties present the authorities they cited to enable him rule on the matter.
However, while Mr Alex Ewa, counsel to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) complied, Dada’s authority was not made available to court.
Consequently, the presiding Judge ordered the defence and prosecution counsels to pick a fresh date for hearing to enable the court make a ruling on the case.
