Court grants ex-CBN Gov, Emefiele bail
An Abuja High Court sitting on Wednesday has admitted Godwin Emefiele, the former Central Bank Governor (CBN) to bail.
The court ordered that he should be released to his counsel and must be produced in court when needed.
The presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi, also ordered him to deposit all his travel documents with the court’s registrar.
Earlier, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) complied with the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory’s order regarding Emefiele and brought him to court.
After being in the custody of the Federal Government security agencies for over 150 days, Emefiele was brought to court in compliance with Justice Olukayode Adeniyi’s order.
On Wednesday, the former CBN Governor arrived at the court around 12:30, escorted by a retinue of EFCC operatives providing security around him.
Justice Adeniyi had recently reaffirmed his order that the detained former CBN governor be brought to Court on November 8 for the purpose of admitting him to bail.
In the alternative, he directed the anti-graft agency to either grant bail to Emefiele on its own or allow the court to do so in line with provisions of the law on fundamental human right
