Court sentences two to death for killing commercial sex worker in Anambra

Two persons, Valentine Umezinwa and Emeka Okolonji, have been sentenced to death by a High Court sitting in Onitsha, Anambra State, for killing a commercial sex worker, Blessing Eze.
The convicts lured, murdered Blessing Eze and dumped her corpse around Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, sometime ago.
Delivering the judgment on Wednesday, Justice D.A Onyefulu, said he had listened to the cross examination by the State Counsel, N. S. Emeka and the response from the prisons officials who testified of the good conduct of the accused during their period in correctional facilities.
Justice Onyefulu said that the Counsel to the convicts have the option of appeal as well as through the committee of prerogative of mercy stressing that the Governor has the final say on the matter.
He added that Counsels to convicts did not show any cause why justice should be tampered with mercy.
Counsel to the State government, N. S. Emeka in an interview said that justice had been served to the deceased, to the state and to the convicts,even as he said the convicts had the right to appeal the judgment.
The defence Counsel, C. C. Okeke said they received the judgment with open heart, disclosing that they would approach the committee for the prerogative of mercy, and would also appeal the judgment.
