Following the resumption of normal academic activities at the secondary level, Monday, the Rivers Government has confirmed that the basic levels, comprising the nursery and primary schools will reopen from November 23, this year.
Schools have remained shut in Rivers as in all states to check the spread of the Coronavirus disease since March, this year.
The state government had earlier directed the reopening of all secondary level schools including JSS 1 to 3 and SS 1 to 3 from Monday, November 16, but exempted the basic categories.
A statement by the state’s commissioner for Education, Prof Kaniye Ebeku issued on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Sir Chidi Adiele, Monday, conveyed the directive of the governor, Nyesom Wike to that effect.
“This is to inform the general public that Governor Nyesom Wike, has approved the reopening of all Public and Private Nursery and Primary Schools in the State with effect from Monday 23rd November 2020 for First Term 2020/2021 academic session, in line with the School Calendar published by the Ministry of Education in August 2020.
“By this announcement all Head Teachers, Proprietors and other concerned persons should take all necessary steps to ensure safe and hitch-free resumption in line with extant COVID-19 Protocols.
“Pupils, Parents and Guardians and the general public should please take note,” the statement read.
