From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
Controversy surrounds the reported suspension of the Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s ward executives.
Ekpenyong Iso, who was appointed Commissioner For Tourism last year was Wednesday morning reportedly suspended by his party in Ward Eight, Calabar municipality.
The ward executives who announced the commissioners suspension said it is hinged on an alleged anti party activities
A letter, reportedly signed on Wednesday, by the Chairman of Ward 8, Kingsley Ekpe, and the Secretary, Gilbert Bassey, said Iso’s suspension is pursuant to Article 21 (D) of the constitution of the APC.
“We write to notify you of your 12 months suspension from Ward 8, Calabar Municipality, of the APC.
“Your suspension is predicated on the recommendations of the disciplinary and fact-finding committee set up to investigate the petition of misappropriation of party funds and anti-party activities levelled against you.
“Consequently, during the pendency of this suspension, which takes immediate effect, you are to stay away from all party activities.
“We wish you all the best in your political sojourn”, the letter read.
Reacting to the suspension, the embattled commissioner said the statement issued on his purported suspension was written by some “unscrupulous persons.
“The allegations are completely false; there was nothing like anti-party activities or misappropriation of funds during the last elections”, he said.
Also speaking, the state chapter chairman of the party, Alphonsus Ogar Eba in a brief telephone chat said he is not aware of the said suspension.
