C’River gets pioneer CNG conversion point

The federal government through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative Team, PCNGI has launched a Compressed Natural Gas CNG Conversion Point.
The conversion point is the location earlier used as a fabrication academy in the state during the last administration in the state.
The new CNG Conversion Point in the state will also serve as a and training centre for technicians and will have the capacity to convert 40 cars daily.
In addition to this, the federal government alongside the state government has provided 1000 conversion kits which will be available free to commercial vehicles.
Speaking while launching the centre, the state governor Senator Bassey Otu said the launch signifies a remarkable journey for the state towards a more sustainable and affordable transportation system.
The governor who spoke through his deputy Peter Odey said the plant will serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the state.
Also speaking, Tosin Coker, the head of commercial of the PCNGI, said this is the first foray of the team into the South South region and Cross River State leads the way.
He said ten centres have been created across the country including Abuja and more states will join the growing number of states with CNG Conversion centers.
The conversion centre will be run in partnership with the Blue Stone Gas and Power Limited Team who will offer technical support to ensure the success of the centre.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, Oludamola Akindolire said they hope to assist in the energy transition programme of President Tinubu.
He added that the project will help transition Nigeria from fossil fuel to a cleaner and cheaper alternative.
Also speaking, the Cross River State Science and Technology commissioner, said the conversion point has the capacity to cover the whole Niger Delta region and is the biggest so far in Nigeria
