
CROSIEC slashes nomination fees for council elections

The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission has slashed nomination fees for candidates in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The commission has earlier fixed 5 million naira nomination fees for chairmen and 1 million naira fees councillors in the election.
However, the commission said sequel to an appeal by the Inter Party Advisory Council IPAC to the state governor, the nomination fees for chairman has been slashed from 5 million naira to 1 million naira while that of councilors has also reduced from 1 million naira to 200,000 naira.
Dr. Ekong Edet Boco, the chairman of the commission while announcing the review said” The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission in its meeting resolved that the cost of nomination fee be reduce from N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira) to N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira) for Chairmanship.
“Similarly, that of councillorship has been rescued from N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira) to N200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) in line with the appeal made by IPAC to the Governor”, Dr Boco said.
The chairman also announced that the Commission has graciously extended the election by one (1) week.
He said “Accordingly, the proposed Local Government Councils election in the State will now hold on Saturday, 2nd November, 2024, while the Campaign will end on Friday, 1 November, 2024”, he said.
