With less than 24 hours to the Friday deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for parties to submit candidates’ details, the crisis already rocking the Labour Party (LP) in Cross River State deepened with members of the Organised labour passing a vote-of-no-confidence in the state chairman of the party, Ambassador Ogar Osim.
The LP state chapter has been in crisis following refusal by the state chairman, Osim to recognise the election of Chief Ernest Obasse, the acclaimed winner of the party’s governorship ticket and submit his details to INEC ahead of the 2023 Governorship poll.
The notice was signed by state Nigeria labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Comrade Ben Ukpepi as well as the TUC Chairman, Monday Ogbodum.
Other signatories are Godwin Amoikwen, chairman of the NLC Political commission as well as the Chairman of the TUC Political Commission Ken Bassey.
Organised Labour said, “The leadership totally dissociates itself from all political activities of the Ambassador Ogar Osim led executive of Labour Party in the state.
“The leadership further notifies politicians dealing with him as doing so at their own peril, as no consultation was made with leadership of the Organised Labour in the state.
“Notwithstanding this position, the loyalty of Organised Labour in the state for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi remains unshaken.
“However, the support of Organised Labour in the state for candidates for various elective positions shall be determined in due course; and this shall be based on credibility and competence of candidates.
“The leadership of Organised Labour hereby passes a vote of no confidence on Ambassador Ogar Osim, the interim state chairman of Labour Party”, Organised Labour said.
Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Ambassador Ogar Osim the state chairman of the party said the no confidence vote passed on him is laughable and means nothing.
He said the duty of Organised Labour is to mobilise members and not to dictate for the political party.
